Melissa Charles, Artistic Director/Founder of DMR Adventures, is a professional actor, director, choreographer, and teacher, as well as a producer and consultant. A member of the Actors Equity Association (AEA) and SAG-AFTRA, she has worked as an actor in theatre, film, and television in NYC, LA and in regional theaters throughout the country. Melissa was the founder and Artistic Director of both the Broadway Adventure program and the Union Street Theatre (UST). She has taught workshops, classes, and coached actors for the International Thespian Festival, DMR Adventures, Broadway Adventure, UST, Live Arts, Lighthouse Studios, and Peabody School. She has a certificate in Non-Profit Management from Duke and a B.A. in Drama from UVa, and will begin working towards her Master’s Degree in Arts Administration in the fall. She has produced, directed and choreographed over 40 productions, and specializes in musical theatre. In addition to her work in the performing arts, Melissa is also a graphic designer, an event planner, an entrepreneur, and manages social media and communications for several organizations. Melissa’s most valued accomplishment is the creation of DMR’s Youth Leadership Program (YLP), through which dozens of students interested in a career in the performing arts have gained hands-on experience with professional mentors. Most of the staff of the 2014 Broadway Adventure Camps are comprised of students who have worked with DMR for many years! Melissa currently plays the role of Lydia Ketcham on the AMC television series, Turn: Washington’s Spies.
Tres Wells (Stage Manager) Tres is a teacher, actor, musician, and father. As a teacher, he has worked for 19 years with students from elementary through high school. He started acting 10 years ago when is daughter begged him to perform with her on stage. Having found his passion, he has since worked in various rolls and theaters in the Charlottesville community. From acting, singing, producing, stage managing, running a summer theater camp, to serving on the Four County board of directors, Tres has done it all with a smile on his face.
Mariah Lander Johnson (Assistant Director/Assistant Choreographer) Mariah is a choreographer, make-up artist, and actor. She studied dance with the Shenandoah Civic Dance Company and attend PVCC for a degree specializing in dance. Mariah’s main focus in her dance career has been the study of expression through dance and taking a story, whether it’s big or small, and telling it through the art of movement. She is currently the dance instructor at the Village School and has choreographed for Four County Players, Live Arts, and Play On! Theater as well as annually choreographing for children’s theater in New York. She also owns and operates her own make-up and special effects company called ”Bio Duck FX” and has worked on over 100 projects in film, theater, print, and fashion since 2008.
