Auditions for DMR All Stars and DMR Dream Team

We are auditioning for TWO musical theatre troupes for ages 7-18.

(If your child has recently participated in a DMR program, you will likely not need to audition)

You MUST register at this link to audition:

DMR-All-Stars-LogoFirst is our 2015-2016 DMR All Stars! This is a performance and outreach troupe, with regular rehearsals on Sundays from 2:00-3:30, beginning on September 13. All Stars are asked to make a commitment for either 1st semester (September-December), the 2nd semester (January-May), or both. There is a total cost of $140 per semester (4 payments of $35), as well as affordable performance attire. Financial assistance is available for those in need! Our focus will be on performance and outreach, not on competition.

Dream-Team-Logo4The Dream Team is a competitive performance troupe. It is made up of our most advanced and dedicated performers who aspire to pursue a career in the performing arts. Our first year as a competitive group saw our students considered for leading roles on Broadway, in film and on television series. Our students excelled in every area of performance — from scoring leading roles in professional, community, and educational theatre as well as numerous films, to winning awards at conferences and competitions, to receiving thousands of dollars in scholarships for educational opportunities. Perhaps this is a coincidence, but we believe that the discipline, passion, and inspiration gained from being a member of our troupe and the professional training they received made this a reality. We will be traveling to Norfolk for the very first Junior Theatre Celebration at the Virginia Theatre Association Conference in October. The conference takes place October 22-25, and our adjudication will be on Oct. 24. In addition to VTA, we are also planning a trip to NYC in early 2016, (along with at least one other youth performing arts academy), where we will train with Broadway performers, see a Broadway show, and perform for adjudicators. We are also planning an industry workshop or showcase with NYC Casting Director(s) and/or agent(s). Planned dates for our trip to NYC are Jan. 15-17.Those who sign on for the Dream Team will have their *All Stars* fees waived for the first semester, so stay tuned for that exciting audition notice. Dream Team will have planned rehearsals on Sundays from 3:45-5:15, with our first rehearsal on Sunday, August 30 from 4:30-6:30.

Auditions will take place on Thursday, August 20 from 4:30-6:30. You may sign up in a 30 minute block and you must prepare a short song (16-32 bars or a verse and a chorus). Please also be prepared to move (and bring or wear appropriate clothes and SHOES for dancing)! You MUST register for this audition. For DMR All stars, we are looking for joyful performers who want to share their passion of singing, acting and dancing. Scholarships and financial assistance is available for DMR All Stars. For Dream Team, we are looking for more polished performers with a dream of pursuing performing arts in college and/or as a professional career. Very limited financial assistance is available for Dream Team.

*Invitations for those who have already auditioned will be sent by Tuesday, August 18.

Feel free to invite others by sharing this link or by sharing our FB audition event:

Dani Miller

Congratulations to DMR All Star Dani Miller, who was recently chosen by Hollywood and Broadway Star, Lilla Crawford, to receive a scholarship for a workshop led by Crawford at A Class Act in NYC! Dani entered an online contest with kids from all over the country, and her superb vocals won Lilla’s attention and, in return, a scholarship for Dani! Dani started her day with a private meeting with Lilla, who congratulated her on winning the contest. Then Lilla started the workshop by leading warm up and improv games for the students in the class.  Next, Dani got to read scenes and perform a song from Into the Woods.  (If you are a friend of DMR Adventures, you may have just seen Dani star in our Charlottesville production as the Baker’s Wife!) The students got to spend time a the end of their workshop in a Q&A with Lilla, during which she discussed the total focus, dedication and commitment it takes to be in the business (Crawford started by appearing in commercials at age 2). Dani discovered that she shares something in common with Lilla – their favorite Broadway show is Side Show! Dani, we are so proud of your focus, dedication and commitment! You’ve grown by leaps and bounds as an actor in the last year and we know you’ll find your way to Broadway if that’s a goal you want to work toward! Congratulations! Check out the slideshow below of moments from the class, and click this link for Broadway World’s coverage on the workshop.

Congratulations, Joshua!  We are SO proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do next.  Check out the gallery below, with a sneak peek of all the action on set. Thanks to Sharon Harris for the photos!

Elemental is the story of Francis, a true wunderkind, who lives with his caring and kooky Aunt Kandi. Francis is a whizkid when it comes to science and tinkering but with some advice from a kind neighbor, Francis learns that sometimes it is best to keep it simple when it comes to matters of the heart.
