She is shown on the left, training in NYC with Broadway vet and DMR Guest Artist, Matthew Steffens during our DMRinNYC trip this past January.
You may have recently seen Sydney in Charlottesville playing the lead role of Teli in the production of Jen Hoyt Tidwell’s No Wake at the IX Art Park.
This professional production ofA Christmas Story is in Fredericksburg, Va. and the show runs November 16 through December 31st. You must call the box office for tickets at 540.370.4300.
The DMR All Stars did a GREAT job singing the National Anthem this week at the Richmond Flying Squirrels game on 6/14/16. What a great performance, and a fabulous way to end the semester. Check out some photos from the evening.
Congrats to Dylan on his first Richmond show, The Boy From OZ, with Richmond Triangle Players. Dylan was a member of the 2014-15 All Stars and the 2015-16 Dream Team and has been in several shows and many classes with DMR.
Dylan is excited to be debuting in his first show in Richmond! He plays the role of young Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz at the Richmond Triangle Players. This musical is based on the colorful life story of Peter Allen who was a singer songwriter that grew up in the Outback and was subsequently discovered and brought to the USA by Judy Garland. This musical first performed in Australia in 1998-2000 and then on Broadway in 2003-2004 with Hugh Jackman playing Peter Allen. Dylan’s role is everything one imagines of a Broadway part – tap dancing, singing, dramatic acting complete with a glittering cast Finale number. Dylan thinks that the best part though was working with a dialect coach to capture that Aussie accent! The show opens on June 16 and runs for a month with possible extensions to the end of July. Congrats, Dylan!
Posted below is the cast list for Annie, Jr. Please read ALL the information below!
Please note that the name of your role(s) is the left of your name! Please also note that those playing shared roles will perform in 2 shows, and the others will perform in 4 shows. Thank you ALL for being so BRAVE! Auditions are such a tough process, and you all did a terrific job. Please know that casting is based on MANY factors, if you did not receive a role that you hoped for, please know that it may be something as simple as height that played a major factor!
Congratulations to you all! We were SO inspired by the great attitudes, passion, energy, and risk-taking that we saw in auditions. We have an incredibly fun and fulfilling few months ahead of us filled with acting, singing, dancing,
and, of course, friendship!
We saw approximately FIFTY incredible actors for call backs for Annie, Jr. The talent in this area is simply amazing!!! Congrats to EVERYone on your hard work and dedication, and for many of you who are trying this for the very first time. We still have some call backs for some roles in the musical, as well as many casting decisions to make. Please pat yourselves on the back and know that we’ll be posting a cast list by Thursday evening! Thank you!
A BIG shout out to the many folks who helped to make sure the auditions happened smoothy, including: Dani Miller, Colleen Druzgal, Michaela Campbell, Grayson Harlow, Selina Noramly, Kathy Miller, Shannon Walsh, Michael Giovinco, Erin Rothman the other parents who chipped in to help and, of course, Matt Charles! What an incredible community!! High fives to the amazing parents who support their kids passion for the arts!
Katie is one of the youngest cast members and is thrilled to be a part of this fantastic musical. If you are in or near Massachusetts on August 14 & 15, please go see Katie! Katie is rising freshman at Tandem Friends in Charlottesville, and has made a huge impact this summer in DMR’s Youth Leadership Program! Katie, we are so proud of you and look forward to seeing photos and hearing all about your production. Break a leg!

Congratulations to DMR All Star Dani Miller, who was recently chosen by Hollywood and Broadway Star, Lilla Crawford, to receive a scholarship for a workshop led by Crawford at A Class Act in NYC! Dani entered an online contest with kids from all over the country, and her superb vocals won Lilla’s attention and, in return, a scholarship for Dani! Dani started her day with a private meeting with Lilla, who congratulated her on winning the contest. Then Lilla started the workshop by leading warm up and improv games for the students in the class. Next, Dani got to read scenes and perform a song from Into the Woods. (If you are a friend of DMR Adventures, you may have just seen Dani star in our Charlottesville production as the Baker’s Wife!) The students got to spend time a the end of their workshop in a Q&A with Lilla, during which she discussed the total focus, dedication and commitment it takes to be in the business (Crawford started by appearing in commercials at age 2). Dani discovered that she shares something in common with Lilla – their favorite Broadway show is Side Show! Dani, we are so proud of your focus, dedication and commitment! You’ve grown by leaps and bounds as an actor in the last year and we know you’ll find your way to Broadway if that’s a goal you want to work toward! Congratulations! Check out the slideshow below of moments from the class, and click this link for Broadway World’s coverage on the workshop.
We’re proud to announce that one of our talented All Stars, Joshua, was recently cast as the lead, Francis, in the short film, Elemental. This was Joshua’s first film audition, and we’re so proud that he is able to represent DMR on this fabulous professional film. Elemental is directed by Eric Hurt, and produced by Arvold Productions and Pillage & Plunder Pictures.
Joshua sent this message from set:
“This has been such a great opportunity so far! I really am enjoying it and appreciate everything everyone has done for me. Thank you Melissa for helping me so much! A special THANK YOU to Christina and Mila!”
Congratulations, Joshua! We are SO proud of you and can’t wait to see what you do next. Check out the gallery below, with a sneak peek of all the action on set. Thanks to Sharon Harris for the photos!
Elemental is the story of Francis, a true wunderkind, who lives with his caring and kooky Aunt Kandi. Francis is a whizkid when it comes to science and tinkering but with some advice from a kind neighbor, Francis learns that sometimes it is best to keep it simple when it comes to matters of the heart.
We are so proud of the 4 DMR All Stars who proudly represented DMR Adventures this Memorial Day weekend by singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Flying Squirrels baseball game in Richmond, VA. Dani, Eliza, Katie, and Mia did an excellent job singing for the huge crowd (estimated at between 8,000-9,000). Congrats, ladies! We are SO proud of your incredible harmony and spirit! Enjoy this video and the slideshow below.

DMR Adventures is thrilled to announce that another one of our amazing DMR All Stars has landed a professional gig. Kaitlin Burton will play the role of Young Violet in the production of Violet at Heritage Theatre Festival. Violet will run from July 28–August 1 in the Culbreth Theatre. On learning she was cast in the role, Kaitlin said “I am humbled, honored, and very excited to have this opportunity to work with Bob Chapel and the many talented people I will learn from this summer. I love this musical, and look forward to being a part of Heritage Theatre Festival!”

She recently traveled with the DMR All Stars to Atlanta, GA, where the troupe won the award for “Best Ensemble” at the Junior Theater Festival. You can see Kaitlin play a different interpretation of Cinderella, this time in Into the Woods, Jr. from April 24-26 at Burnley Moran Elementary. Kaitlin, your DMR Adventures family is SO proud of your hard work, dedication, professionalism and passion! We know it won’t be long before you play on the same stages as you favorite performer, Sutton Foster!
We’re so excited to announce that one of our DMR All Stars, Anya Rothman, booked the role of Sweetie Pie in the pre-Broadway run of the new musical Because of Winn Dixie, based on the book of the same name, at Delaware Theatre Company. The musical has a Book by Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and Music by Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening). The musical will be directed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, who was nominated for a Tony for her revival of Ragtime. We’re all SO excited for Anya and thrilled that a larger audience will get to see how truly amazing and professional she is!
Anya has participated in all of the Broadway Master Classes we’ve hosted in Charlottesville with instructors Brad Bass & Keven Quillon. She was also featured in our first camp in 2014, Broadway Baby. She played a narrator in our fall production of Cinderella, Kids, and played Little Red in our award-winning Junior Theater Festival short production of Into the Woods, Jr.
