Dream Team Pre-Professional Troupe
What is the Dream Team?
Comprehensive theatre education with an emphasis on musical theatre, ensemble work, and audition technique.
While our year will focus on group training, there will also be private instruction.
Some of the topics that may be covered throughout the year include:
Acting for the Stage
Acting for the Camera
Vocal Health & Habits
Dance: Musical Theatre, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, and Hip-Hop
Mock Audition workshops
Design for the Stage
We may split our group for some training, specifically dance technique and music technique. Groups will be assigned based on level, age, or a combination of both.
Group classes will take place from 5:15-7:15 on Sundays.
Approximately 2 Sundays per semester will devoted to private sessions. We will take a break on holidays.
Students will be assigned between 4- 6 separate 20 minute private sessions (split between singing and acting) in each semester which will focus on audition preparation. These private sessions are not to take the place of regular vocal training, but will enhance the work you are already doing and help to get you more intensively prepared for auditions and solo performances.
Private training will typically take place between 7:15PM and 8:35PM, except for the Sundays which are only private training (no group classes), when private training starts as early as 5:15. Students will be assigned to private training. If you are not able to attend the session(s) to which you’ve been assigned, you will need to coordinate with another student to switch.
Our focus is on education and technique, and not on a large production. We have many opportunities in our area, including at DMR, to audition for performance opportunities. However, we do have two showcase performances planned throughout the year.
Our Dream Team is led by Director/Acting Instructor, Melissa Charles as well as Music Director, Natalee McReynolds. We will have a wide variety of Guest Teaching Artists throughout the year.
The first showcase will be with the Junior Stars (our younger pre-professional group) and will coincide with the 10th Anniversary Celebration of DMR Adventures.
The performances will be at 3PM and 7PM on Saturday, February 23, with rehearsals on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Friday, Feb. 22 from 5PM-8PM.
The second showcase will only be for the Dream Team.
The performances will be at 3PM and 7PM on Saturday, May 18, with additional rehearsals on Thursday, May 16 from 5PM-8PM and Friday, May 17 from 5P -9PM.
We are instituting a strict policy on lateness (both to arrival and pick-up), preparedness, as well as conflicts. If there are recurring issues, we will have a meeting with parents(s) and student to discuss next steps.
We will have between 2-3 parent classes/meetings each semester. while these sessional are optional, we highly recommend attending, even if you have had training in the arts. We always learn new things from those in attendance, and this is a great opportunity for us to get to know you better.
Membership in DMR troupes does not affect casting decisions for DMR productions.
If your child is committed enough to join the Dream Team troupe, we have an expectation that your child is enrolled in private voice training. We offer discounts to DMR troupe members on group voice lessons, and we are happy to provide a list of qualified teachers outside of DMR.
