DMR Adventures Presents
Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe

Charlottesville, VA – January 9, 2018 – On Saturday, January 19, at 7:30 p.m., DMR Adventures will premiere Nevermore: The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe, a unique and wildly theatrical musical experience with haunting music and poetic storytelling to chronicle the fascinating life of America’s most iconic gothic writer in an operatic and mythical style. The play explores themes of mental illness, loss and desperation — issues we deal with in our community on a daily basis.

A literary rock star of his day, Poe struggles with tragedy and addiction, poverty and loss, yet produces some of the world’s most original, visionary and enduring literature before dying in unexplained circumstances at the age of 40. At once gorgeous and grotesque, “Nevermore” explores the events that shape Poe’s character and career, blurring the line between fact and fiction — after all, as Poe himself writes, “All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.”

“Nevermore” flips the script in that it is a unique DMR production as adult performers take the stage with students from the DMR Youth Leadership Program working as technical support staff.

The show may not be suitable for audiences under 12.

DMR students have gone on to top musical theatre conservatories and university training programs, as well as performing in film, television, and even a national tour!

DMR believes in making performances and classes accessible to all. DMR works with communities with underserved populations and families with children who have sensory-related issues to make a difference for these students through the arts. We are proud to have provided more than $50,000 in scholarships and discounts to children in need.
