The BROADWAY ADVENTURE class offers a fast-paced but FUN education in musical theatre: singing, dancing, and acting, as well as an opportunity to work on set, prop, and costume design. The class will work towards a culminating production of a full musical production (Title will likely be a wonderful contemporary musical by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Pippin, Wicked)). You do not have to audition to be in the class, but we will have auditions as a part of our class, during the first and 2nd week. We are looking for performers who can take direction well and work as a team. We will be producing three performances of this production, two of which are open to the general public.
Students who participate in our production will perform in three shows on Halloween weekend. The second show will be an autism-friendly performance geared toward children with sensory-related disabilities and their families. Slight modifications will be made for that performance, like adjusted light and sound levels and the presence of a support staff and quiet break area. Autism-friendly productions are being performced on professional stages across the country like Boston Conservatoryand Broadway. Performers will have the unique opportunity to learn about sensory disabilities and how to create theatre that is accessible to all. Performers will also be invited to complete two brief research surveys about their perceptions of individuals with disabilities and the impact this experience has had on them. Please email DMRAdventures@gmail.com (subject Broadway Adventure) with any questions.
